
Our Little Junior Miss Garland County Pageant

On March 15, 2008 The Humane Society held it's first "Our Little Junior Miss Garland County" Pageant at the Lake Hamilton Primary School auditorium. There were 11 entries in the event. Age groups competing were 4 to 6 year olds, 7 to 8 year olds, and 9 to 12 year olds. In addition to the main pageant, three awards for Most Photogenic and a single Community Service Award were given. Our thanks to Mr. John Smalling for doing an outstanding job as emcee and also to Miss Teen United America, Nikki Walker for serving as contestant escort and for crowning our winners. Our thanks to Summer Howerton, a local musician, who provided entertainment and our three judges, Kathy Benedict, Beverly Fletcher, and Patty Gould.

1st place in the 4 to 6 year old group went to Alexis Leopold.

2nd place in the 4 to 6 year old group went to Kaydra Fox.

3rd place in the 4 to 6 year old group went to Hayley Mitchell.

1st place in the 7 to 8 year old group went to Kaitlyn Cox.

2nd place in the 7 to 8 year old group went to Faith Bolding.

3rd place in the 7 to 8 year old group went to Hannah Farmer. Hannah also won the Most Photogenic award in the 7 to 8 year old group.

1st place in the 9 to 12 year old group went to Emily Beasley.

2nd place in the 9 to 12 year old group went to Adison Williams. Adison also won the Most Photogenic award in the 9 to 12 year old group.

3rd place in the 9 to 12 year old group went to Leah Poff.

Nikki Walker, Miss Teen United America, presents Hayley Mitchell with the HSGC Community Service Award. The award goes to the contestant who collects the most donations for the Humane Society of Garland County. Thanks Hayley. Great job!

2008 Hot Springs Flute Ensemble Benefit

On March 9th, The Hot Springs Flute Ensemble performed a benefit for the Humane Society at St. Luke's Episcopal Church sanctuary. Close to 100 people attended. The musical selections were chosen for their animal content, with "My Dog Pooh" being the star of the show. The Hot Springs Flute Ensemble is conducted by Julian Herring. It is a non-profit organization, affiliated with National Park Community College and the National Flute Association. The benefit netted the Humane Society over $600. HSGC would like to thank all the musicians for their time and wonderful music, and we hope they will agree to another performance next year. It is not to be missed!
3rd Annual Mutt Strutt

Perfect weather and a record crowd at his years 3rd Annual Mutt Strut made for a fun-filled and entertaining day. There were 38 entries in the event this year. That's almost 3 times larger than last years event. HSGC would like to thank everyone and every dog that showed up to strut their stuff for us. We appreciate your support and hope everyone had a great time. We sincerely hope you all come back again next year.
A special thanks to the Clarion Resort on the Lake and the Baymont Inn & Suites for providing our 2nd and 3rd place winners with a weekend for two. Also, a huge thanks to the Dance City Dancers for doing a super job of performing for us while our judges tallied up the votes. Thanks also to Arc Isle , Chad Carter of Spa City Music , Starbucks Coffee, KLAZ, the Air National Guard, Hot Springs Life and Home Magazine, Dick Antoine/KZNG Radio, Deputy Tosh and his dog Cal, Paw Spa and The Sentinel-Record.

The fabulous Dance City Dancers did an awesome job of entertaining the crowd while the judges tallied the votes. Thanks girls!

Jazzie was a crowd favorite and came in 3rd for Best in Show. Congratulations Jazzie - You did great!

Lolie, a Beagle/Terrier mix seemed a bit nervous about the big competition,but did great anyway. Come back and see us next year Lolie.

Sunny, a Lab/Corgi mix competes for Cutest. Sunny has a great personality!

Coco has competed in all three Mutt Strut's and is always a crowd favorite. It was good to see you again this year Coco.

Hope is a beautiful Australian Shepherd mix. Hope entered the Best Trick competition but had a little stage fright.

Sit Muttley, a Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix competes in the Best Kisser category. What a nice dog!

Our 1st place Best Kisser was Daisy, a Maltese with a lighting fast tongue. Show us that tongue Daisy!
